Understanding GSi - Terminology

This section details the concepts and terminologies of GSi.
Service & Utility Service and Utility are both in reference to GSi Core Services and Utilities. Service is an essential (MUST) component of the infrastructure without which the infrastructure will not run. Utility is a supporting (OPTIONAL) component of the infrastructure, which aids the core services to accomplish optional functionality.
Business Process A set of connected and coordinated activities that accomplish a business goal Ex. Process Order, Recruitment, SWD Scheme
Activity Unit of work that contributes to the achievement of a Business Process
Manual Activity The manual step with User intervention that contributes toward the completion of a process Ex. Approval, Field Verification, Feedback
Automated Activity The automated step that contributes to the completion of a process. Activity with code and runs with no user intervention. Ex. Send Offer Letter by Mail, Generate Employee
Business Rule Business rules are programmatic implementations of the policies and practices of a business organization Ex. Scheme Approval for APL/BPL, Move to Old Age Pension Scheme if age > 60
Process Definition Represents computer understandable (XML) definition of the Business Process which can be interpreted and executed by software
Process Instance Represents an instance of the Process Definition
Activity Instance Represents an instance of a Automated or Manual Activity
Task (Task Item) A unit of work that needs to be performed by a user
Task List A set of Tasks logically grouped based on Role/Org. Unit/Organization
Vertical (Business Application) The departmental or business unit application which runs on GSi
